This seems to be a good fire pit considering the cost and it is easy to assemble. It is my first fire pit and my friends, family and I are really enjoying it. The setup instructions recommend putting sand in the bottom of the pit to insulate the area below the pit and to protect the pit against the corrosive nature of the ashes. While I fully agree with the use of the sand, the ash gets mixed into the sand making it nesassary to remove sand during the ash clean up. My way of improvising is to set FIRE bricks into the sand.
Easy>>> 1. cover the bottom of the pit with sand (1-2 inches deep) 2. Smoothe out sand creating a flat surface. 3. Lay the bricks in place in a tight pattern. the bricks. I used measured 4"x8"x1". 9 or 10 bricks this size covers most of the bottom. 4. Fill in the voids with sand to the height of the bricks. Now you have a flat surface that you can sweep the ashes off of. We have had seveal fires in this pit and it's great. Comes with a poker, a cooking grate and a spark screen. Fire it up!

This is one of the cheaper portable fire pits out there but it works great. I get lots of compliments and the deep pit and top spark arrestor are better for fire safety then shallow pits. The grill top is well used. Like all fire pits putting some cheap all purpose sand in the bottom is required to prevent rusting. My only complaint is the legs are hollow and very sharp on the bottom so be careful not to slide this on a deck or any surface that can't take a collosal beating.

First off, my family and I love this fire pit. It's very easy to set up and use straight out of the box. It's beautiful and doesn't transfer a lot of the heat downward to the deck or patio that it's kept on. My only complaint is that I've had it for about a month or so and the "heat resistant" paint is already starting to peal off the screen lid, and it is beginning to show a couple of rust spots in the outer lip. It's no big thing to buy a can of the paint and repaint it, but it seems a little soon for these issues.
